Whatever your travel plans packing sex toys can be tricky. No one wants to have a vibrator start buzzing in their suitcase and set off alarm bells behind the scenes at the airport or be buzzing as your brother in law helps you get your bag of the luggage carousel.
No not a great way to start a holiday.
A lot of the vibrators in our catalog have travel locks and we recommend that be the number one thing you look for when you are selecting which toy to take on your travels (if you are unsure if a vibrator from our shop has a travel lock and you want to check before you buy please use the contact form and we are happy to answer your question). Not all sex toys have travel locks though if your favorite does not have a travel lock never fear there are some cool tips and tricks for when you travel everywhere with sex toys.
Whether you are traveling for work, vacation, moving to a new house, or heading home for the holidays—plane, train, or car we have you covered. It is summer and travel is high on many people’s lists and we have the best travel tips for taking your favorite vibrator on your travels.
1. Choose your travel companion.
Buy a vibrator that has a travel lock. If you have a battery (removable) powered vibrator, remove the batteries and put them in a separate plastic bag. If you have a rechargeable vibrator drain the battery then remember to pack your charger so you can charge it when you arrive. Many rechargeable vibrators come with USB chargers so you can charge it from your computer or your mobile phone charger. If your toy has a built-in travel lock (Fun Factory toys have a great travel lock), you can keep the charge but keep the vibrator off. Simple steps to make sure you don’t have to worry about your toy turning on in transit.
2. Wrap your toy up in clothes and other soft things
Wrapping your vibrator up in soft things like clothes means that it can’t accidentally turn on when the buttons or switches bump into something in your suitcase. If the toy(s) you want to take are not electronic (Dildos, plugs or BDSM products) wrapping them in your clothes can also be a good idea as it keeps them away from curious souls.
3. Don’t forget the lubricant
If you have checked baggage it is easy enough to travel with lube, just make sure you choose a bottle that will fit in your toiletries bag. If you have carry-on luggage only remember liquid restrictions, it would be so very embarrassing to have the bottle of lube confiscated as airport security because the bottle was too big for carry-on luggage. If you are transferring your favorite lube to a travel bottle that is clean and hasn’t been used for anything else. Uberlube has a travel-sized bottle that comes in a metal container to protect it.
4. Carry-on or check-in?
Personal preference really. Keep in mind that anything with rechargeable batteries is supposed to go in the tray at airport security like your phone or laptop. Check-in usually costs a little more, but if you’d rather not risk it at airport security scanning.
Check-in could be your preferred choice if you are traveling with a lot of sex stuff. If what you’re traveling through an area where people may be more judgmental or where sex toys are illegal (more on that next tip). It is important to remember that it doesn’t mean there won’t be someone checking through your stuff after check-in (for security reasons) but you won’t have to look at them in the eye while they do it.
If carry on is your preferred choice it is possible to fly carrying with sex toys in your bags it is not likely to be something they haven’t seen before. If someone asks you can just tell them what it is.
5. Where to not travel with sex toys
Although traveling with sex toys is generally fine there are a few places you need to check the legality of owning a sex toy or traveling with one. Those places include Maldives, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, and Alabama (USA – go figure). Some places are stricter than others but take heed when you go to these places because if you run into the wrong people and circumstance, you might end up in serious trouble. You need to check travel advice information where ever you are traveling to check up to date laws and restrictions, things may change between when this article is written and when you are traveling so it is your responsibility to check what is legal where you are traveling and what is not.
It is quite difficult to compile an exhaustive list (and keep it up to date), so here are some final words of advice:
· Check the customs websites of any countries you plan on entering.
· Keep it small and stick to discreet products like the Mia 2, which resembles a tube of lipstick.
· If you couldn’t bear to potentially have it taken away from you, leave it at home.
