The A-Spot is an elusive pleasure centre also known as the anterior fornix erogenous zone (AFE Zone). This pleasure zone like the G-Spot is somewhat of a debated topic amongst health care professionals even among sexologists. Some believe that the G-spot, A-spot, C-Spot and O-Spot are all important pleasure zones while others consider them to only be theories because research is limited in sexual wellness and function compared to other areas of health research.
However, there is enough anecdotal evidence, personal accounts even Sextech designed specifically to stimulate these areas that I thought it was important to share some information about it. One piece of research on the AFE Zone was conducted by a Malaysian sexologist PhD Chua Chee Ann who was trying to research a potential treatment for vaginal dryness. The treatment being researched cantered around massaging the AFE Zone for 10-15 minutes. Two Thirds of the participants reported increased vaginal lubrication with 15% saying that they had large amounts of fluid along with nearly immediate orgasms.
What is the A Spot?
It is an erogenous zone on the front wall of the vagina, that is a part of the internal clitoris. Yes, the part of the clitoris that you can see is just the tip of the iceberg. It actually runs below the surface of the labia and extends into the abdomen and parts of the clitoris can be stimulated from inside the vagina. This is where erogenous zones such as the A spot and G spot come into play.
The A spot is located just before the cervix on the front wall of the vagina. One line of thinking suggests that when a vagina owner experiences a powerful orgasm during vaginal penetration or anal sex the A-Spot maybe being stimulated to orgasm. Some also think that we have the A spot to thank for female ejaculation not the G Spot. Hopefully ethics committees will allow more research into these areas so that we can truly understand the female anatomy of pleasure to the extent we understand male pleasure responses.
How to find your A-Spot?
The first way to try - Gently place two clean fingers inside your vagina and until you feel a hard spot at the back, this is your cervix. Now gently feel around the area, you may feel firmness, you may feel some softer fuller parts and you may notice some very pleasant sensations.
Another way to try – If you know how to find your G -pot start there. The A-Spot is on the same front wall of vagina (belly button side) but it is deeper. The G-Spot usually feels rougher and thicker than the rest of the vaginal wall while the A-Spot feels spongier and softer than anywhere else in the area.
Pressure is important when stimulating this area. The vagina doesn’t have much in the way of touch sensitive nerve endings, but it does have pressure sensitive nerve endings. So once you find the A-Spot pressure is a must to experience pleasure or even orgasm if you are one of the lucky ones.
Using a toy to find you’re A-Spot – it is best to use a toy that is designed for the A-Spot like the Regala Rabbit by Rocks Off or another G-Spot toy. This style of product is designed with a curve and other features to specifically put pressure or direct stimulation to the front wall of the vagina where these spots are located. Length is another factor to consider if you want to reach the A spot, around 15cm would typically be long enough.
How does the A-Spot and Anal work?
This area of the clitoris can be stimulated during anal sex, some can even orgasm through this type of stimulation. How does this work? The Vaginal wall and the rectum are only separated by a thin layer of tissue so when some people have anal sex/play with a penis or a toy the pressure exerted by these pushes against the rectal wall stimulating the A-Spot.
Partnered positions for A-Spot stimulation
Having your partner use a toy to stimulate your A-Spot is much easier for them to do than to do on your own. It is a less awkward angle for them to do it than when you try alone (still worth trying solo though). If sexual positions for penetrative sex is how you would like to explore A-Spot pleasure than deep penetrative positions such as doggy style, cowgirl and reverse cowgirl are good positions to try – or anal sex.
A note to end on! Not everyone can orgasm through A-Spot stimulation. Actyually if you can you are among the few, however for those who cannot which is the majority you are likely to experience more intense orgasms achieved through other kinds of stimulation example clitoral. To the lucky few that can experience A-Spot orgasms you are likely to experience multiple intense orgasms with shorter recovery times between each. Now if those are not good reasons to at least try out the A-Spot I don’t know what is.
